Sri Lanka Cricket whose identity has taken a battering over the past four years has pleaded with the public to patronize the Women’s Asia Cup free of charge.

The tournament featuring eight countries commenced on Friday in Dambulla, a venue that is usually patronized to capacity for matches featuring the men’s team.

“The public can enter all the matches of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 free of charge. Accordingly the gates of the RDICS (Rangiri Dambulu International Cricket Stadium) in Dambulla will be kept open for the public to enter the ground and witness the games”, Sri Lanka Cricket said in a media statement.

SLC according to an insider is also hoping that by filling the venue without charging spectators it could impress International Cricket Council (ICC) officials who are in Colombo for their annual meeting.

India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, the UAE, Thailand and Malaysia are the other seven teams in the fray.
