IHCL to expand footprint in Sri Lanka

The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) that owns and operates the Taj Samudra, Colombo, Taj Airport Garden Hotel, and Taj Bentota Resort & Spa is exploring the possibility of building or buying two hotel properties in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.

The Hotel Company also plans to upgrade the Taj Samudra Colombo using the land space for more leisure sector development.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), a Tata group company, Puneet Chhatwal met President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Monday and discussed these expansion plans and new investments in Sri Lanka.

Billionaire and entrepreneur Binod Chaudhary, head of CG Hospitality, Rahul Chaudhary and Chairman BOI Dinesh Weerakkody participated in the discussions.

IHCL was founded in 1902 by Jamsetji Tata and is headquartered in Mumbai where its flagship hotel Taj Mahal Palace is located. Today Taj has become one of the world’s strongest hotel brands. Their unique portfolio comprises hotels across the globe including presence in India, North America, United Kingdom, Africa, Middle East, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan and Nepal.
