Royal International School Kurunegala swimmer Rion de Silva won three medals including a first place finish at the 49th Sri Lanka Schools’ Age Group Aquatic Sports Championship at the Sugathadasa swimming pool in Colombo last week where 208 schools and over 3000 contestants took part.
Rion swam in the Under 14 age group and won first place in the 50 metre backstroke finishing the event in 33.30 seconds.
He followed it up by winning second place 100 metre freestyle event in a time of 1.2.67 and a bronze medal in the 50 metre butterfly race in a time of 31.58 seconds.
The medals were testimony to Rion’s dedication, skill and unwavering determination to excel in the competitive arena of aquatic sports and he thanked his coaches, supporters and school for their unwavering encouragement throughout his journey.
“This victory is not just mine but belongs to everyone who has believed in me,” said a modest Rion, reflecting on the collective effort that contributed to his triumph.
