About 17.1 million registered voters have qualified to vote to elect their future President at a free and fair Presidential Election-2024 on September 21, said Kurunegla District Deputy Election Commissioner R.M.H.B.Rathnayaka.
Nearly 1.1 million fresh voters have qualified this time to cast their votes.
Over 13,000 polling stations will be set up for the voters to cast their votes, Rathnayaka told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
He said 250,000 Government employees with 25,000 Government vehicles will be deployed to carry out the official duties of the Elections Department.
Rathnayaka said that the Government printer has requested Rs. 800 million from the Election Commission for printing ballot papers.
He said certain elements had printed fake ballot papers that were equal in size and appearance on previous occasions. If similar incidents are reported this time and tough legal action will be taken against those who possess and print such illegal documents, he said.
