The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has said that President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and many MPs of the ruling party have submitted the Declarations of Assets.
According to the new Assets Declaration Act, all public representatives, including staff officers, must submit asset declarations and display them on the Bribery Commission’s website.
President Wickremesinghe presented this Bill and according to this, every year all officials including public representatives must declare their assets and liabilities.
Previously, politicians’ asset liability statements were deposited in the safe of the Parliament, Provincial Council or Local Government institution they represent, but according to the new Act, all those asset liability statements must be sent to the Bribery Commission.
“You can go to the Bribery Commission’s website to find out information about those who have and have not given asset declarations, and it will be revealed that some Opposition MPs have not yet declared assets and liabilities,” MP Premnath C. Dolawatta said. Apart from the President, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa as well as National People’s Power Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake are among those who have submitted their asset declarations.
