Mary Margaret Fernando (87) developed speech problems, memory loss and confusion two months ago. Later, she was diagnosed with a big tumor in her brain. The neurologist and surgeon recommended immediate surgery and said that otherwise she would enter into a coma.
The surgery was done and the tumor was removed successfully on June 19, after a three-hour surgery. She was kept in the ICU for two days and transferred to the ward on June 22.
She is unable to speak and eat and drink by mouth and everything is done by nasal feeding.
The approximate cost estimate for a craniotomy of this type is Rs. 2.5 million. She appeals to the public for help.
