The support of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Polonnaruwa District Bala Mandalaya to President Ranil Wickremesinghe was unanimously decided on at the meeting at Kaduruwela, Polonnaruwa on Friday (August 9).
The Polonnaruwa District Bala Mandalaya meeting was held with the participation of Chief Government Whip, Housing and Urban Development Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, SLPP MP Jagath Samarawickrama and other Polonnaruwa district Government and Opposition MPs.
Nearly 100 former Government and Opposition members of the Provincial Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas of the three electorates of Minneriya, Medirigiriya and Polonnaruwa participated.
Minister Ranatunga said, “At present, a leader with experience should be appointed for the country to recover economically and Ranil Wickremesinghe is the most suitable leader for that task. There is time for the National Organiser and SLPP candidate Namal Rajapaksa to contest the Presidential Election. I have decided to support Ranil Wickremesinghe after thinking about the country and not the party.”
Polonnaruwa District Development Committee Chairman MP Jagath Samarawickrama also spoke.
