The New Bhikkhu Collective (Nawa Bhikshu Ekamuthuwa) has decided to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming Presidential Election.
Chief Registrar of the Social Development Section of the Rāmañña Nikāya, representing the New Bhikkhu Collective, Ven. Karakole Piyadassi Thera said that Ranil Wickremesinghe has now become a globally recognized name as he steered the country out of chaos.
At a media briefing at the Pepiliyana Sunethra Devi Raja Maha Vihara, Ven. Piyadassi Thera said that President Wickremesinghe has the strength, knowledge, and maturity to lead the country.
“He stabilised the country which was in disarray. Now numerous people are coming forward and saying that they could have done better, but at that crucial juncture, nobody had the courage and strength to accept the challenge. President Wickremesinghe showed his leadership qualities when the country needed him,” he said.
The Chief Incumbent of Kolonnawa Sedawatta Weheragoda Vihara, Ven. Ambanwala Gnanaloka Thera said that President Wickremesinghe had brought the country forward in a very short time and has given many benefits, such as decreasing the prices of essential goods and reducing the electricity rates by 30 percent.
“The Maha Sangha, who were divided due to party politics, have united today to support President Wickremesinghe in the upcoming Presidential Election, knowing that he is the only capable candidate,” he added.
