A record number of entries are expected for the 109th Sri Lanka National Tennis Championships that is scheduled to be held from August 16 to September 1 at the SLTA courts at Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha in Colombo.
Closing date for entries is August 12 and the SLTA is expecting nearly 1400 entries most of them set enter in the final hour according to officials.
Competitions will take place across 17 clay courts including SLTA Courts, SLTA Playing Section, Sinhalese Sports Club, Police Tennis Court and the Government Servant Tennis Club.
Events range from Under-12 inclusive of the Senior Nationals and Wheelchair Nationals to over-35, 45, 55 to 65.
All leading tennis players are expected to enter and display their skills at the highest levels according to Iqbal Bin Issack the president of SLTA at a media briefing held at their headquarters on Friday (9).
The main sponsor is Hatton National Bank (HNB) while Turbo will be co-sponsor. The Head brand will be the ball sponsor and will provide balls during the games.
Upul Adikari head of Marketing at HNB said that they have been supporting tennis for the past ten years and are happy to be involved once again.
