Trinity swimmers champs
Trinity College swimmers became overall champions at the Central Provincial Sports Meet 2024 held at the Digana Swimming Complex last week. They obtained 847 points.
Under-12 boy Wishwadinuth Pradeepan was the champion in his group while Sithupa Ninduwara was the U-14 winner. Chehan Goonethilaka was the U-16 champ while Imesh Dissanayake was the U-20 champion.
Kandy’s Madugalle to the fore
Kandy’s cricket fans were elated that former Sri Lanka cricket captain Ranjan Madugalle had become the first Match Referee to officiate in 400 ODIs.
He was born in Kandy and started schooling at Trinity College before joining Royal College.
Madugalle is the longest serving member of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. He represented Sri Lanka in 21 Tests and 63 ODIs.
Stage set for hockey
Seventeen boys and sixteen girls’ teams will participate in the inter-club hockey tournament that is organized by the Ministry of Sports and Sri Lanka Hockey Association. There will also be 16 boys and girls teams that will participate in the inter-school tournament.
