Sri Lanka graduates should not protest in streets and demand jobs but try to gain employment on their own and move into self-employment projects, said motivational speaker and Toastmaster Club Growth Director Bathiya Hettiarachi.
He was speaking at the Negombo Speakers Forum Toastmasters Club Installation ceremony at the Onreech Hotel in Seeduwa where Chrishanthus Perera was elected President.
This event celebrated the emergence of new leadership, ready to guide the club through the coming year and beyond.
Hettiarachi said that they should be ashamed to be humiliated and assaulted and chased away by the police and should be wise enough to stand on their own.
His address focused on the essence of leadership —making the right decisions with integrity and dedication. His words provided both a challenge and inspiration for the newly appointed leaders, urging them to lead with confidence and purpose.
The Division Director also delivered a powerful message, focusing on the concept of “falling forward.”
He encouraged the members to view challenges as opportunities for growth, reminding them that even setbacks can lead to progress if approached with the right mindset. His speech was a call to action for the club’s members to embrace risks and learn from their experiences, reinforcing the idea that true leadership is forged in the face of adversity.
