Matale Thomians and Holy Family girls win Royal hockey championship

St. Thomas College Matale and Holy Family Convent Wennappuwa emerged champions in the boys and girls categories respectively in the ESOFT Blue & Gold Hockey tournament 2024 held at the Royal College ground on August 10 and 11.

The tournament was organized and conducted by the Royal College Hockey Club (RCHC) for the 19th time to help boost the standard of the game among school children.
St. Thomas’ College beat St. Aloysius College Galle 3-0 in the semi-final and beat Kingswood College Kandy 3-0 in the final. Nithmina Dharmakeerthi scored two goals and skipper Naduja Weerasuriya scored one.
Dharmakeerthi was adjudged as the best player in the boys’ category.

Holy Family Convent beat Ladies College 3-0 in the semi-final and beat Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya Nawala 1-0 in the final. Skipper Nipuni Ishara scored the winning goal and was adjudged as the best player in the girls’ category.

St. Aloysius Galle beat St. Joseph’s College 1-0 to pocket the second runner-up place in the boys’ category while Ladies College beat Girls’ High School, Kandy 1-0 to finish as second runner-up in the girls’ category.

Swarnamali Girls College Kandy beat Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya Galle 1-0
Bowl 3rd Place (2nd runner-up)
Seethadevi Balika Kandy beat Vihara Maha Devi Balika Vidyalaya Badulla 3-0
