A Sri Lankan girl, 14-year old Hesali Peiris, is set to make her debut against international racing riders overseas when she takes part in the Asia Cup of Road Racing (ACCR) to flag off with Round One from August 30 to September 1 in Thailand.
Some of the best bikers from Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, Nepal, Taiwan, India, Singapore, Iran and Nepal will compete in this highly anticipated event according to the organisers.
The ACCR has established itself as a premier platform for showcasing young talent in the world of motorcycle racing over its two-decade history and the event continues to bring together the best young riders from Asia to compete.
This year’s event takes a major step further when for the first time it opens out to female riders and Hesali will be take her place as the first from Sri Lanka.
The riders are nominated by FIM-affiliated federations, ensuring that the competition remains prestigious and well-regulated.
Hesali is a student of Daybridge International School in Dehiwela who is showing promise to go places setting the stage for more females to take to racing.
According to the organisers, a unique aspect of the ACCR is the support provided by the sponsoring manufacturer which supplies all motorbikes used in the competition and alongside the bikes, a team of factory mechanics will be on hand to ensure that the machines perform at their best, providing a level playing field for all participants.
