Yet another scandal has found a place at the Lanka Premier League (LPL) this time in the form of doping involving wicket-keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella who has been found guilty of taking a banned substance during the tournament this year.
He has now been suspended from all forms of cricket with immediate effect.
Dickwella’s suspension comes a week after the 25-year old spin bowler Praveen Jayawickrema was booked by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on charges connected to match fixing at the LPL.
The drug test was conducted on Dickwella by the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency (SLADA) during the LPL in July this year.
“SLC together with the Ministry of Sports and SLADA conducts these tests during domestic tournaments randomly to safeguard the sport against anti doping violations”, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said in a media Statement.
Dickwella, 31, played his last match in the Sri Lanka kit in March 2023 which was a Test match and his last T20 International was in June 2021.
