The competence of schools rugby officials have been brought into question with the resignation of the newly established Advisory Committee that was headed by the former president of Sri Lanka Rugby Lasitha Gunaratne.
Gunaratne along with his committee member and Police rugby stalwart Hafeez Marso have quit the Advisory Committee of the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) over policy and administrative differences.
Asked about their resignations from the Advisory Committee, Marso told the Sunday Observer that they had “done everything for the benefit of the game in the schools” with the intention of solving problems that cropped up, but the SLSRFA did not heed their advice or pay attention to pressing issues.
“They (SLSRFA) are not worried about technical matters that cropped up especially last month. So we have decided to leave the Committee,” said Marso who played rugby for Police for many years.
Gunaratne said it was of no use to stay on in the Advisory Committee which he described as a “name sake” entity.
The SLSRFA is run by school principals and masters whose rugby knowledge and backgrounds are unknown.
They could not be reached for immediate comment.
