The coach of javelin thrower Dilhani Lekamge is reported to have quit the Paris Olympic Games and returned to the country forcing the athlete to compete without a coach at her event.

An official of Sri Lanka Athletics said that an inquiry will be held into the circumstances that led to the coach quitting the games or what led to his sudden exit.

It has been alleged that the coach got into conflict over an issue with Olympic Games officials.

Lekamge was knocked-out from the first round throwing to a distance of 56.66 metres that was below expectations.

According to Sri Lankan annalist the performance of five of the six athletes at the Games marked one of the worst performances by the country at an Olympics.

The 400m runner Aruna Darshana was the only athlete who qualified to the semi-finals while the rest, swimmers Kyle Abeysinghe and Ganga Seneviratne, badminton player Viren Nettasinghe and 800 metres runner Tharushi Karunaratne were knocked out in the first attempts.

All six were financially rewarded before the Games by controversial Sports Minister Harin Fernando who lost his job on a court order last week.
