The Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka (CRIB), the nation’s primary credit information authority, is broadening the digital accessibility of credit scores and reports through strategic collaborations with banking and financial institutions. As part of its ongoing commitment to educating the public on maintaining a healthy credit profile, CRIB now allows individuals to easily obtain their credit reports via the CRIB website or their own banking applications.

In a recent development, CRIB has partnered with People’s Bank to enhance customer convenience. This collaboration enables People’s Bank customers to directly access their CRIB Report (MyReport) and credit scores through the bank’s digital wallet, ‘People’s Pay.’ The process is streamlined, requiring only a simple registration and request, with no need for additional verification steps or paperwork.

This expanded accessibility is a result of CRIB’s ongoing efforts to bridge the information gap (information asymmetry) between lenders and borrowers, thereby fostering credit growth with improved terms and conditions. By enabling Sri Lankans to stay informed about their credit status, the initiative also encourages responsible borrowing. Supported by a successful digital transformation agenda, CRIB has effectively leveraged its state-of-the-art Credit Information Management System (CIMS) to ensure greater customer convenience through seamless integration with existing banking digital channels.

Customer data is securely transferred between the CRIB CIMS and banking systems, with strict adherence to customer data privacy and protection standards. CRIB meets all mandatory encryption requirements and fulfills its obligations as the National Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka.

Through these efforts, CRIB aims to enhance credit inclusivity within the Sri Lankan community, promoting better borrowing habits and a deeper understanding of payment behaviors, indebtedness, demographics, credit history and the status of credit facilities. This will, in turn, contribute to a healthier credit culture in society, positively impacting overall credit growth and inclusivity.

With the ability to access their own credit report and CRIB score, existing banking customers can gain a clearer understanding of their creditworthiness and eligibility for a wide range of financing products and credit facilities offered by their banks, often with more favorable terms and conditions. The CRIB score serves as a valuable reference, enabling customers to secure faster credit approvals and better credit terms.
