55th Saints Quadrangular Tournament 2024 ends with a splendid performance

The annual traditional gathering for the Old Boys of the four premier Catholic Schools in Sri Lanka: St. Anthony’s College – Katugastota, St. Benedict’s College – Colombo 13, St. Joseph’s College Colombo – 10, and St. Peter’s College Colombo – 04 concluded recently with a splendid performance and entertainment through the camaraderie of all four schools and specially, with an extensive contribution from the hosting school – St. Anthony’s College, Kandy.

The Invitation Six-a-side Soft Ball Cricket Tournament involving four Sister Schools: Good Shepherd Convent, Kandy, St. Bridget’s Convent, Colombo – 7, Holy Family Convent, Colombo – 4, and Good Shepherd Convent, Colombo – 13, added more glamour to the event sponsored by Prima Kottu Mee, Watawala Tea and George Stewarts Health.

Opening ceremony was held at St. Peter’s College grounds on August 17 morning with Rev. Rectors and Rev. Directors of the main four schools with the gathering of officials and the players. Distinguished Old Benedictine, renowned athlete who bagged many local and international awards for Athletics, Hockey and Carom Susantha Fernando was the Guest of Honour.

All the preliminary and semi-final matches of all sports were held during the first day, and all the respective final matches had been played on the 2nd day of the tournament along with the sister schools six-a-side cricket tournament.

Another great sportsman and the business personality produced by St. Anthony’s College, Angelo Wickramasooriya (President of the Old Antonian Cricket Wing, double Eagle winner in school, The Most Popular School Boy Cricketer) was the Chief Guest of the final day.

Old Josephians secured the overall championship with 37 points and Old Peterites became the runner up of the overall tournament with 34 points. Both Old Bens and Old Antonians placed at 3rd position. St. Bridget’s Convent made the first ever invitation cricket tournament championship defeating Holy Family Convent at the final match – super over contest.
