Case against former Media Secretary on Sept. 27

Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Rathnayake has ordered that the Magistrate’s inquiry into the alleged unauthorised use of a credit card belonging to Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media, Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana, be taken up on September 27.

Former Media Secretary to the Minister who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding this incident on August 9 was produced before the court and later released on two personal bails of Rs. 5 million each.

The suspect released on bail is Mahesh Wickrama of 582, Werahera Road, Boralesgamuwa.

The CID’s Special Investigations Unit told court that the suspect had provided his personal phone number and email address for a credit card with a limit of Rs. 500,000 which he allegedly used for his personal transactions.

The court was also told that the suspect had used the credit card to make payments totalling Rs. 200,000 to a private vehicle company and posing as an insurance agent, to make payments on behalf of a doctor.
