Youth athletes bailed out

Twelve most talented Sri Lankan youth athletes are ready to compete at the World Athletic under-20 championships in Lima, Peru from August 27 to 31.

Their trip to Peru became a reality at the eleventh hour due to the non-availability of funds by the Sports Ministry/

The team is captained by Meron Wijesinghe, who will be running the 100m and in the only 4x100m relay team for boys.

The team also includes a medal prospect in Madushani Herath who has won a silver medal in the triple jump at the Asian Junior Championship held in Dubai earlier this year. This athlete from Nannapurawa MV, Bibile is the best contender having won both the long jump and triple jump at this year’s National Championships.

Immediately after this, the athletes will be heading to Chennai, joined by more junior athletes to add up to 53 participants for the South Asian Junior Championships.
