Over 50 teams in fray for League Basketball

A total of 636 players from 53 teams will be seen in action at the 32nd League Basketball tournament that will begin on September 9 and finish on November 22.

The Mercantile Services Basketball Association (MSBA) will host this tournament to be held at the Royal College Indoor Complex. All matches will be played on weekdays starting at 5.30 pm.

There will be six men’s divisions and three women’s divisions comprising of 130 games.

The MSBA has paved the way for many basketball players to get into the corporate sector being the most active association in the country and hosting the tournament annually. There have been many basketball players representing the corporate sector who have gone on to represent the country in international tournaments.

The draw for the tournament was held on August 28 at the Jetwing, Ward Place, Colombo 7 and My Cola Beverages has come onboard for the third straight year as the Platinum Sponsor.

Teams (Men’s A Division)
Akbar Brothers, Commercial Credit & Finance, Fairfirst Insurance

Women’s A Division:
Commercial Credit & Finance, Hatton National Bank, Seylan Bank

Men’s B Division:
CDB Finance, David Pieris Group, Hatton National Bank, John Keells Holdings, Sampath Bank – A, Seylan Bank.

Women’s B and C Divisions:

Men’s D Division:
CodeGen International, Crepe Runner, DFCC Bank, Nations Trust Bank, NDB Bank, Sampath Bank– B, Union Bank of Colombo, Moresand

Men’s E Division:
Abans, Aitken Spence, Commercial Bank of Ceylon, Daraz Sri Lanka, Dialog Axiata, Hayleys, IFS R&D International – A, LOLC Holdings, MAS Holdings – A, Standard Chartered Bank, WSO2 Lanka.

Men’s F Division:
Amana Bank, Ceylon Tobacco Company, Contrinex Ceylon, Creative Software, DIMO, Hemas Holdings, IFS R&D International – B, Legacy Health, London Stock Exchange Group, MAS Holdings – B, Wiley Global Technology.

For the first time this year MSBA will invite two Sri Lanka Youth teams (Under-18 Boys and Girls) to compete in the Men’s and Women’s ‘A’ division which will be a boost for the young basketball players to compete with top level players.

The MSBA aims to continue to support the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation to develop the sport and keep the young talent to continue playing the game.
