Wheel Masters, a provider of automobile aftercare services in the North Central Province for three decades, has recruited differently-abled employees.
This was under the theme Diversity – Equity – Inclusion (DEI) which adds value to its HR practices and helps the community.
In 1998, Wheel Masters, was one of the pioneers in deploying females in the automobile service section.
Managing Director of Wheel Masters (Pvt) Ltd, Amal Piyatilake said, “Now our company employs both sexes, all ethnicities and the differently-abled.”
“Few months back I attended a Rotary training seminar in Habarana under the governorship of Rotarian Sushena on the implementation of the DEI concept in the Rotary Club and I thought of implementing this wonderful theme in my organisation,” he said.
This concept was initiated in the USA by President Lyndon Johnson following the campaign of freedom fighter Dr. Martin Luther King in the 1960s and later all the first world countries practised this concept as a fair trade initiative.
Chief guest at the ceremony, Assistant Provincial Secretary, Nuwaragam Palatha East, “I have seen plenty of CSR activities by Wheelmasters but this concept is something entirely new in a remote area like Anuradapura.”
The Social Services Department played a key role to recruit and train these underprivileged people.
