Boost for Anuradhapura Football League teams

President of the Anuradhapura Football League, Dacshitha Sumathipala, organized a recognition ceremony to appreciate the progress made by their football team in 2023 after their annual general meeting held on August 31

The Anuradhapura Football League invested a sum to Rs. 4.8 million (from March 31, 2023 to August 31, 2024) with Rs. 2.8 million spent during the period from March 31, 2023 to March 31, 2024.

The event was attended by key officials, including Secretary Vijitha Kumara de Silva, Treasurer Ravindra Ranasinghe and Vice Chairman Malith Senanayake.

At the event, Sumathipala also organized an awards ceremony to honour the players and teams who achieved significant victories in football over the past year.

The United SC team, which won the championship in the A Division, received a cash prize of Rs. 500,000 while the Paragon SC team, the B Division champions, was awarded Rs. 300,000. The Star Warriors SC team, runners-up in the A Division, received Rs. 300,000 and the Warriors SC team, runners-up in the B Division, was awarded Rs. 150,000.

In addition, Gihan de Silva was recognized as the best goalkeeper and MA Hasni was honoured as the best footballer.

In his speech Sumathipala expressed his concern about the significant decline in football in Sri Lanka and emphasized his commitment to revitalizing the sport. He stated that the sponsorships made today aim to motivate the players who continue to strive to preserve football in the country and to encourage the involvement of new young talents in the sport.

He further affirmed his readiness to contribute as a young entrepreneur to elevate the Anuradhapura Football League to the highest level in Sri Lanka and to promote the development of football in the country. The event was attended by several prominent figures in the football community.
