Under-19 school cricket to begin this month

The Under-19 Division One two-day schools cricket tournament 2024/25 will commence in the middle of September.

Teams will compete in Tiers ‘A’ and ‘B’.

Eighteen teams will play in two groups ‘A’ and ‘B’ and each team will play eight matches. Four teams qualify to the quarter-finals based on the points table. From quarter-final onwards they play will be in a three day format. Maximum of five traditional matches will be played by any school.

Four teams from both groups will compete in the relegation round. Two teams will be demoted to tier ‘B’ from tier ‘A’ after playing in the relegation round.

Richmond College emerged champions and Trinity College the runners-up last season 2023/24.

St. Peter’s and Lumbini were promoted to tier ‘A’ as they emerged champions and runners-up respectively last season.

St. Thomas’ Matara, Wesley, St. Anne’s Kurunegala and De Mazenod Kandana were demoted to tier ‘B’ after the relegation round last season.

Group A:– Richmond College Galle, Mahanama College, Prince of Wales College, St. Anthony’s College, St. Joseph’s College, St. Benedict’s College, S. Thomas’ College, St. Servatius College, Lumbini College

Group B:– Trinity College, St. Sebastian’s College, D.S. Seananayake College, Nalanda College, Gurukula College, Maliyadeva College, Royal College, Maris Stella College, St. Peter’s College.

Division One – Tier ‘B’:

Group ‘A’ – Wesley College, De Mazenod College, Isipathana College, Dharmaraja College, St. Aloysius College, St. Anthony’s College, Devapathiraja Rathgama, St. Sylvester’s College, Sri Sumangala College.

Group ‘B’ – St. Thomas’ Matara, St. Anne’s Kurunegala, Thurstan College, Mahinda College, Moratu Vidyalaya, Holy Cross College, Ananda College, St. Sebastian’s Katuneriya, Tissa Central Kalutara (YK)
