More exposure for swimmer Methvan

Methvan Fernando among the 200 swimmers at the Junior Open Water Swimming World Championships at Alghero, Italy

Leading long distance and St. Joseph’s College swimmer had more exposure come his way when he took part in the 2024 World Aquatics Junior Open Championships held in Alghero, Italy last week.

Methvan won both the Mount Lavinia Open two-mile sea swim and the Trincomalee five-mile Open sea swim this year showing plenty of promised for the future.

Together with Methvan, Minagi Rupasinghe and Charan Rupasinghe (UK-based swimmers) and Tharusha Perera (Australian-based swimmer) also represented Sri Lanka in this world championship which was held from September 5 to 8.

Over 200 swimmers from more than 35 countries contested in the open water swimming championship.
