Sri Lanka finished in second place at the South Asian Junior Athletics meet in Chennai, India where the host country ended as the champions.
Ananda College sprinter Merone Wijesinghe became the fastest junior in South Asia as he shattered the meet record, clocking 10.41 seconds to win the 100m gold medal.
Induwara Weeraratne of Leeds College Matara finished second, bettering the previous meet record with 10.49 seconds. This marks the first instance where two Sri Lankan juniors ran below 10.5 seconds in one race.
The other record breaker was sixteen-year-old Savindu Avishka of Naththandiya Dammissara National School who erased five seconds from his personal best to win the gold medal in the 800m with a new championship record of 1:49.82.
