When women possess knowledge and skills, they can overcome all challenges and move forward, said Secretary General of Parliament, Kushani Rohanadeera.
The Secretary General was speaking as the chief guest at the launch of the student Parliament at St. Paul’s Girls’ School, Milagiriya recently.
She highlighted the significant responsibilities undertaken by female Parliamentarians, who are a minority in Parliament, and educated the students regarding the parliamentary process and its functions.
The event was organised in collaboration with the school and the Communication Department of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, to provide students with practical experience on parliamentary procedures.
Director Legislative Services / Director Communication (Acting) M. Jayalath Perera emphasised the importance of incorporating leadership qualities into their lives through the student Parliament mechanism and added that the student Parliament can equip them with the tools to overcome life’s challenges.
As part of the program, the election of the Speaker of the student Parliament took place. Thereafter, the Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet took their oaths. Subsequently, each minister of the student Parliament proposed plans to be implemented by their ministries.
Certificates were also presented to the students representing the student parliament, led by the Secretary General.
