The Ven. Galboda Siri Gnanissara Memorial Scholarship Trust Fund was launched at the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Singapore recently.
Most Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Mahanayaka Thera, Chief High Prelate of the Asgiriya Chapter, and Most Ven. Diwulkumbure Wimaladhamma Anunayaka Thera, Deputy Chief High Prelate of the Malwatta Chapter, and many respected chief prelates from Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, and the USA were present.
The event was followed by a fundraiser.
This initiative, dedicated to the memory of Ven. Galboda Gnanissara Thera, affectionately known as Podi Hamuduruwo, aims to perpetuate his life’s mission of uplifting youth through education and vocational training across communities in Asia. The Trust, has been registered in Sri Lanka under deed number 868 dated August 30,2024.
Founder of the Trust and Chief Incumbent of Gangaramaya, Ven. Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thera highlighted Podi Hamuduruwo’s belief in “Vishwasa Parama Gnathie” – trust as the highest form of knowledge in human connections.
Ven. Shi Fa Shou played a crucial role in the preservation and continuation of Podi Hamuduruwo’s vision.
The Trust Fund will support scholarships and vocational training, fostering innovation in fields such as fintech, health tech, travel tech, biotech, and agritech.
It also aims to nurture talents in sports, arts, and cultural aspects, ensuring a comprehensive support system for the youth. It further aims to provide infrastructure development support for monastic schools and secondary schools in rural areas, sanitary and welfare facilitation for novice monks, and training for teachers, educators, and curators.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Singapore Senarath Dissanayake, and Public Trustee Gihan Pilapitiya were also present.
