The 32nd Mercantile League basketball tournament 2024 being played at the Royal Indoor Stadium had many one-sided finishes in the encounters and in one match Aitken Spence come from behind to beat WSO2 Lanka by 58 points to 50 after trailing 21-27 at half time.
It was the tireless play by Lawrence who scored heavily that made Aitken Spence emerge winners at the end. He was also named as the player of the match. Scorers for AS were I. Lawrance 24 and Agrga Umayanga 17.
Jared Fernando played best for WSO Lanka to obtain the highest score of 24 points.
Hayleys Group registered an impressive 94 points to 41 win over Standard Chartered Bank in another preliminary game. Hayleys led 53-19 at half time as D. Jayaweera 26, Meron Perera 18 scored for Hayleys while Chenud scored 19 points for the Bank team. Player of the match was Dinush Jayaweera from Hayleys.
