Chairman of the Sri Lanka Anti Doping Agency (SLADA) Professor Arjuna de Silva announced his decision to step down from his post at a media briefing held at the SLADA headquarters in Colombo on Thursday.
He said his resignation will take effect from September 30 and was his own decision not pressurized from any quarters.
Professor Arjuna de Silva is credited with playing a part in keeping athletes away from performance enhancing drugs during his tenure of 13 years. He was associated with eight sports ministers.
He was also the pioneer in the construction of a new headquarters for SLADA in Colombo and Sri Lanka rose to sixth place among the Asian countries in controlling the drug menace.
In addition, SLADA was also able to identify the importers of banned substances.
He expressed confidence that Sri Lanka will be able to increase a significant amount of revenue in the future with the International Cricket Council (ICC) opting to obtain the services of the SLADA for all tournaments conducted in Sri Lanka.
