Budding Nalanda cricketers showcased at inaugural Bandula Warnapura memorial tournament

Nalanda Vikings won the inaugural Bandula Warnapura Memorial Trophy cricket tournament held at Campbell Place in Colombo last week with former Sri Lanka captains Mahela Jayawardena and Roshan Mahanama gracing the occasion.

The Nalanda Vikings team comprising Akindhu Vitharana, Yenula Lometh, Insith Perera, Sadew Sachintha, Ovain Thisakya, Chenuka Dewmeth, Nethsuka Almeida, Adithiya Rajapakse, Sadew Chandrasiri, Thusira Silva, Jidula Deyalage and Waruna Pehasara pose with their trophies and certificates in the presence of Sanjaya de Silva (Academy head coach), Ganidu Dewmina (Academy assistant coach), Thisara Dewdunu (manager), Dunal Yenuka (coach) and Sanuga Wathuhewa (assistant coach)

The event was also graced by Himali Warnapura, the chief guest and wife of the late Bandula Warnapura who was Sri Lanka’s first Test captain along with the principal of Nalanda College Iran Champika Silva, tournament director Saranga Wijeratne, Past Cricketers Association (PCA) president Nihal Pathirage, Chance Sports chairman Lasantha Amerasinghe and Rangiri Holdings and Warna Ceylon CEO Danusha Pathirage.

Nalanda Vikings beat Nalanda Titans in the final in the championship that was created to boost and encourage budding talent at Nalanda College and as many as 64 junior players took part.

The first president of the PCA former Nalanda captain and CCC player Upul Gamage and coaches Prasanna Dahanayake, Nimantha Peiris and Menaka Malruk were also honored at the event.
