Omino Gamage Sajini
Her diamond eyes cast the moonbeams. Her charming figure appears to be a delicately sculpted and chiselled statue. Her lips looking like a violet petal and the brightness of her crown blend with the sheen of her mien, mesmerizing our eyes. Born in the pearl of the Indian ocean, she is a blossom bloomed in the land of Sakura.
She is Hansi Sajini Gamage. The Youth Observer caught up with Hansi who won the first place at Mr & Miss Sri Lanka in Japan.
Born in Agalawatta, Hansi Sajini better known as Omino Gamage Sajini had her education at Mihindu Central College. Distinguished as a sports girl, she became the brightest student at school, showcasing her skills and talents through extracurricular activities. She played netball and won the Netball Queen Crown as well.
“My netball coach encouraged me and supported me,” she said.
Not only her coach but also her parents motivated her. Modelling was also her childhood dream and passion.
With a knack for the art of modelling, she used to pause for photos even at a very young age.
“My father was my first photographer and my parents and brothers supported me a lot and inspired me to achieve my goals,” she said.
As the time passed, her heart was drawn to modern languages. She started learning the Japanese language at a language school with the intention of improving her language skills.
What ignited her interest in the Japanese language is the beauty of Japanese culture. However, little did she know that her language skills would pave the path for her future life.
“I loved kimono, Japanese culture and their lifestyle. That is why I learned Japanese. The Japanese are humbler than we think. In my opinion there are so many lessons that we can learn from them,” she said. After completing her language course, she got a chance to fly to Japan. Miraculously, it was the turning point in her destiny. It was the moment when she was struck by a Cupid’s arrow.
Cupid’s arrow
Upon completing her Japanese language studies, she got an opportunity to go to Japan in 2018. Who thought that she would find her future life partner in the land of Sakura? Perhaps, no one. When she went to Japan, she was able to meet a Japanese teacher through a Bhikkhu in Japan.
Surprisingly, he was one of the Japanese teachers at her language school in Sri Lankan. He was Omino Taku. His father is an English languagelecturer at a university and mother is a primary school teacher. Going down the memory lane, she recalled her past memories.
“I came to Japan and learned the language at a Japanese language school. In addition, I could improve my language knowledge by exploring Japanese culture under the guidance of Taku’s mother. She supported me as much as possible. Sometimes I met Taku. Sometimes, we used to have a chat.“She unfolded her love story. As stressed by Hansi, her husband Taku is behind her all achievements.
“The beauty pageant, Mr & Miss Sri Lanka was held on March 20, 2024. My parents, brothers and my beloved husband Taku fuelled my enthusiasm in applying for the pageant. Even though I did not think that I would win any award, my husband was confident about me. It was my husband who sacrificed a lot of things for me. He did everything from hotel room booking to accompanying me to the hotels. His parents also treated me like their own daughter. This achievement is a result of their sacrifices,” she stressed.

After a warm competition she won the 1st place, making a name for herself in Japan. Her life in Japan
It was Ediriweera Sarachchandra’s Malagiya Aththo that planted the seed of love for the land of Sakura in our hearts. The story painted a picture of Japan, highlighting their colorful culture. Upon reading Malagiya Aththo, we all dreamed of visiting that beautiful country. But only a few of us were fortunate enough to realize that dream. Undoubtedly, Sajini is one of such luckiest individuals.
Back in 2018 she went to Japan and learned the language at a Japanese language school. Upon the completion of her studies, she started her career at a nursery school. Today Hansi has opened a salon in Tokyo. Living in a foreign country away from one’s beloved ones is not easy. There is a tearful story hidden in anyone’s heart. This is her story.
“When I won the first place in the pageant, I felt lonely because my parents, brothers were not with me to share my feelings. It was a heartfelt moment. But my husband Taku and his parents filled the vacuum in my heart.” Sajini said. Time, though unfelt, flew away swifter than the wind. Our conversation with her also came to an end.
