Varun Beverages Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., the bottling and distribution franchise holder for PepsiCo beverages in Sri Lanka, has cleaned the Wewita Lake.
The lake, heavily impacted by plastic waste, has been restored to a healthier state thanks to the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and collaboration with local authorities.
Head of Legal Compliance and Sustainability at Varun Beverages, Mrs. Eresha Kumburulanda said, “We are thrilled to have successfully completed this important initiative. Protecting our environment is a top priority for Varun Beverages Lanka, and we are committed to taking action to address the challenges posed by plastic pollution. By removing a substantial amount of plastic waste from Wewita Lake, Varun Beverages has taken a step towards improving the lake’s ecosystem and protecting the surrounding environment.
The cleanup operation involved a dedicated team of volunteers from Varun Beverages, working in conjunction with local authorities. Together, they removed a substantial quantity of plastic waste from the lake. The company has also taken steps to prevent future pollution by planting kumbuk trees along the lake’s shoreline.
