The Prefects’ Guild of Louvre College, Pannipitiya, recently visited the Camila Disabled Home in Mattegoda as part of its community outreach project, ‘Hand for Hope.’ Camila House, a rehabilitation centre for differently-abled children and home to nearly 60 residents, was the focus of the Guild’s mission to improve the living conditions through essential renovation work.
The primary focus of the project was renovating the roof by replacing old beams, repairing the ceiling of the main building, and painting the indoor and outdoor walls of one of the residential houses to ensure safety, comfort, and a fresh, welcoming environment for the residents.
In addition to the physical improvements, the Prefects’ Guild organised a gathering with the residents of Camila House for students to engage at a personal level, fostering a sense of togetherness, belonging, and uplifting the residents’ spirits.
The project was carried out under the guidance of Principal, Reginald Senevirathna, Headmistress, Sewwandi Madappuli and Prefect In-charge teachers, Waruna Bandara, Kalpana Anuradha, and Nisansala Fernandez. Their collective support ensured the success of this initiative, as the students worked diligently to make a difference in the lives of the residents.
The ‘Hand for Hope’ project has left a lasting impact on the students and the residents of Camila Home. It is a testament to the Prefects’ Guild’s commitment to serving the community and fostering compassion and responsibility among the prefects of Louvre College.
