My motherland is a beautiful island in the Indian Ocean known as Sri Lanka.
It is also called the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, enriched with natural resources, various tropical climates, and lower and upper hill cities. There are four major groups of people, living with different cultures, religions and languages. The majority of people are the Sinhalese. Tamils, Muslims and Burgher are minorities. There are four major religions; Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Christianity.
Sri Lanka was colonised by major three European nations: Portuguese (1505-1658), Dutch (1658-1779) and British (1815-1948) colonialists.
Sri Lanka got independence in 1948 from the British Monarchy. From Independence Day, the local Sri Lankan leaders have been ruling the nation. The Father of the Nation, the late D.S. Senanayake was the first Prime Minister (1947–1952) of the independent country.
I love my country very much because it is rich with diverse cultures, delicious food, spiritual and moral family attachments is popular in cricket and has a high level of literacy.
