Ten cars, 10 cabs, two jeeps, two motorcycles and a lorry registered under the Ministry of Transport and Highways have gone missing according to a report of the National Audit Office (NAO).

The audit report revealed that it was not possible to uncover information about those who were using these vehicles. The audit had not revealed any information whether these vehicles had been given to third parties.

According to the audit report, the Transport Division of the Ministry had not acted in conformity with the financial regulations and these vehicles had not been included in the vehicle list of the Ministry on December 31, 2023. The audit also revealed that the value of the assets included in the accounts of the year 2023 had been underestimated.

Fifteen cars of the Transport Division of the Ministry are currently being used by other Government institutions, but these vehicles had not been handed over or recovered as yet. This list of vehicles includes eight vehicles worth Rs. 33.7 million and seven vehicles had not been assessed and accounted for.
