The Washington Digital University of the USA has conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration upon the head of the Sri Lanka Boxing Association Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara in recognition of his contributions to the field of business administration.
The grand conferment ceremony took place on Sunday in Chennai, India, where Bandara, aged 40, was celebrated for his longstanding commitment to excellence in both business and sports administration.
A proud alumnus of Royal College, Polonnaruwa, he has previously represented his alma mater, winning accolades at the prestigious L.V. Jayaweera meet.
Bandara has also made his mark on the global stage, serving as the Honorary Consul General of the West African Republic of Guinea, demonstrating his dedication to fostering international relations.
In Sri Lanka, he was recently elected as president of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), where he is embarking on a four-year term and has laid out a compelling vision to elevate boxing with an aim to have boxers at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, a milestone he believes will be transformative for the nation’s sports landscape.
“This recognition inspires me to further my commitment to both business and sports administration. I am dedicated to not only advancing boxing in Sri Lanka but also fostering opportunities for the next generation of athletes,” said Bandara.
It is being claimed that his recent initiatives, such as holding the Layton Cup semifinals and finals on the Negombo Beach, reflected his dedication to making boxing more accessible and engaging to broader audiences.
