The Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) of Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka proudly organises the 6th Management Undergraduates’ Research Session (MURS) under the theme of “Synergy in Management Research: Bridging AI and Human Intelligence.” Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and human intelligence has emerged as a transformative force in the rapidly evolving landscape of management research. This convergence represents a new era characterised by synergy, where the capabilities of AI and human intellect combine to unlock unprecedented opportunities and address complex challenges. Accordingly, FMS dedicates the 6th MURS to embody a vision of collaboration and convergence. In this vision, technology and humanity intersect to expose boundless possibilities and drive the management field into a future defined by innovation, resilience, and collective progress.
MURS brings together some of the brightest young academic minds to present their research and ideas. The event, which serves as a platform for students to display their scholarly work, included keynote addresses from distinguished professionals who shared their insights on leadership, innovation, and the future of management practices along with AI. The session features two keynote speakers: Prof. Richi Nayak and Sampath Jayasundara.
Professor Richi Nayak
Richi Nayak is a Professor of computer science and the Deputy Director of the Centre for Data Science at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. Her research centreson exploring artificial intelligence, data mining, and machine learning theories to address real-world challenges. She has collaborated with various international, national, and government agencies, offering consultancy in data science. She has authored over 250 refereed publications in this area. In recognition of her exemplary contributions to the field of Data Analytics, she received the 2016 Women in Technology Infotech Outstanding Achievement Award.
In her keynote speech, she will focus on “Exploring the Transformative Impact of Generative AI.” She will provide an in-depth theme analysis, providing examples such as ChatGPT. In addition, she will discuss how generative AI uses deep learning and neural networks to produce original content, including text, images, music, and even human-like conversations. In this talk, she will explore how Generative AI works and highlight several applications demonstrating its transformative potential across different sectors.
Sampath Jayasundara
Sampath Jayasundara, the CEO of hSenid Business Solutions, will deliver the keynote speech as the industry expert for this year’s conference. A trailblazer in the tech and business solutions sector, Jayasundara has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) in Sri Lanka and globally.
With over two decades of experience in software development and enterprise solutions, Jayasundara has been instrumental in leading hSenid’s growth into a global provider of HR technology. In addition to his corporate achievements, Jayasundara is a passionate advocate for entrepreneurship and technological advancement. He has been an active mentor for startups and young professionals, sharing his expertise in navigating the complexities of the tech industry while creating sustainable business models.
