Mudalihamy was a poor village boy, but he was very talented. One day he came to Colombo from the village and participated in a sports meet. Earlier, Mudalihamy was scared about city boys. He didn’t have a new vest and shoes.

His sports teacher pinned his number on his vest. He wished the paper was big enough to cover the stain on the front of his vest.

Mudalihamy’s number was called. He saw some of the boys wearing shoes with spikes. He thought they would step on his feet and he would not be able to complete the competition. But he was certain, ‘If I win, father, mother and everyone in my family will be happy’. Mudalihamy participated in the onehundred metres race and won first place. All the city boys shook Mudalihamy’s hands. His sports teacher also wished him well. Mudalihamy thought, ‘I was mistaken earlier, city boys are very good’. Mudalihamy was very happy that his dream came true.
