Rain spoils MCA matches as Warnapura hits first ton

The 31st Singer – MCA Super Premier League 2024 with the participation of eight teams which commenced on October 4 came to a grinding halt, due to rainy weather and is currently on hold.

The MCA Super Premier League, is conducted in three stages, namely the League, the Knock-out and the T20.

The first segment – the League stage, consisting 28 matches, got off to a flying start on October 4 with HNB beating the Sri Lanka Cricket U-19 team by 76 runs at the Air Force ground in Katunayake.

In another match played at the same venue on October 8, Mode Engineering beat BBK Partnership by 20 runs on the DLS method, in a 31 overs-a-side game.

HNB’s Madawa Warnapura hogged the lime light being the first centurion of the tournament, hitting a classic 104 runs in 115 balls, inclusive of four sixes and seven fours, against the SLC U-19 team.

Warnapura was associated in a 160 runs partnership in 157 balls for the fourth wicket with Chamindu Wijesinghe (77 runs in 89 balls, inclusive of two sixes and five fours) which helped HNB to post 256 for 7 in 50 overs. In reply SLC U-19 team scored 180 runs in 43.3 overs. Dellon Peiris finished with impressive figures of 4/35.

Mode Engineering beat BBK Partnership by 20 runs on the DLS Method (Match reduced to 31 overs a side, due to soggy ground conditions)

BBK Partnership: 132 in 29.1 overs (Y. Lanka 22, Kamil Mishra 40, D. Sudeera2/25, Arul Pragasam 2/11, Dilshan de Zoysa 2/17, S. Mendis 2/17)

Mode Engineering: 130 for 4 in 27 overs (Pawantha Weerasinghe 23, Ravindu Rashantha 64, A. Tharindu 24 n.o. Y. Rodrigo 2/32)
