Rootcode, a pioneering global software product engineering company, celebrated its 10th anniversary at its headquarters recently.
Founder Alagan Mahalingam set up Rootcode in 2014, driven by a singular vision to build a mobile app. This courageous endeavour blossomed into a mission to deliver transformative technology solutions. As he embarked on this journey, Mahalingam expressed gratitude for those who stood by him, emphasising that the company’s success would not have been possible without the commitment and passion of his team and the faith of their clients.
Over the past decade, Rootcode has expanded its reach and capabilities significantly, now serving over three million users weekly in the Nordic countries alone.
Major strategic partnerships with organisations such as the United Nations and Kendrion, a leading Dutch manufacturer, have further solidified Rootcode’s position as a global technology leader. Their innovative solutions now power over 100 digital products across more than 30 industries worldwide, including agritech, healthcare, esports, e-commerce, and e-governance.
During the anniversary celebrations, Mahalingam said, “Celebrating Rootcode’s 10th anniversary is a testament to our vision of empowering businesses through world-class technology. Rootcode has made a name for itself and placed Sri Lanka on the map as a hub for innovative tech solutions. I am immensely grateful to everyone who has been integral to our success.”
Rootcode’s journey has been marked by several pivotal moments. From its first product, Singify, nominated for The Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA) in 2016, to winning The Global Hack hosted by the European Commission, the company consistently demonstrated its commitment to excellence. The product resulting from this hack, Expert Republic, became a vital platform during the Covid-19 pandemic, providing professional services to users around the world.
The appointment of Mangala Perera as Partner and Chief Operating Officer further propelled Rootcode’s growth. With over 25 years in the tech industry and vast experience as the Vice President of Software Operations at IFS, Mangala’s leadership has been key to the company’s continued success.
In 2021, Rootcode set up a dedicated artificial intelligence division, cementing its reputation as a pioneer in AI innovation in Sri Lanka.
The launch of Rootcode Studio, its user experience design arm, further exemplified the company’s dedication to enhancing digital products with exceptional UX design.
Rootcode also prioritised its social responsibility by launching the Rootcode Foundation in 2022, a philanthropic initiative aimed at empowering underprivileged students through technology education. The company has cultivated a vibrant community of tech enthusiasts through its AI Community Meetup, which has over 3,500 global attendees, facilitating knowledge sharing and networking.
A significant achievement was securing a public tender from the Government of Estonia to build an AI framework, marking Rootcode’s first contract with a European government.
Kujtim Salihu, CEO of Zivi and a long-term client, acknowledged Alagan’s vision: “Since partnering with Rootcode in 2020, I have witnessed their transformation into a global technology powerhouse. Their commitment to delivering exceptional solutions has played a crucial role in our success.”
As it embarks on its second decade, Rootcode remains focused on advancing innovative technologies, expanding its global presence, and making meaningful contributions through its philanthropic endeavours. Alagan Mahalingam’s vision for the future is clear: to lead the global tech industry while remaining steadfast in their commitment to innovation and social impact.
