In commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2024, AIESEC in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with BCAN Solutions PVT LTD and the Indira Cancer Trust, brings you “Pink Pulse,” which is hosted by AIESEC in Colombo North. To wrap up “pink October,” AIESEC in Colombo North holds the event on November 3, aiming to educate youth about the importance and necessity of breast cancer awareness and early detection.
Globally dedicated to being the month of raising awareness of breast cancer, October provides us with the opportunity to educate young people about this condition that affects a large number of women in Sri Lanka every year. While being the most common type of cancer among women while also being the cancer that spreads within the body most easily, the number of patients has also risen significantly in recent years. Among them, an increasing rate of deaths is also recorded, mainly due to late detection. Thus, awareness is critical, especially among the youth prior to becoming susceptible to it.
Through the event “Pink Pulse”, AIESEC in Colombo North aims to make an impact on young adults, who may not be aware of the importance of early detection. “Pink Pulse” is opportune for such attendees to understand the possible severe irreversible consequences of neglecting early detection, and to learn simple steps to safeguard one’s health.
The event will feature a guide to self-examination, which is crucial in helping the detection of breast cancer. Early detection is key to not only preventing the progression of the cancer to more advanced stages while increasing the chances of successful treatment, but also to enable complete removal of the cancer, where self-examination is the most accessible tool for it. A keynote speech is to be delivered by an expert in the industry who will share valuable insight on breast cancer awareness. To extend the deliverance of key knowledge on the topic, a panel discussion comprising industry experts will be held to address important factors related to the disease.
AIESEC in Colombo North, through “Pink Pulse” hopes not only to spread awareness of breast cancer but to also encourage young adults to take proactive measures for their health. Breast cancer rates being on the rise, educating and empowering the youth is more important than ever in the fight against breast cancer, and helping instill normal life expectancy, normal lifestyle and alleviation of costs of medical treatment, among those diagnosed with breast cancer.
