The research book Vidyalaya Nalanda, documenting a century of history at Nalanda College, will be launched at the Malalasekara Hall of Nalanda College, Colombo on November 1 at 2.30 pm.
Authored by independent journalist and social science researcher Ajith Galappaththi, the book is a product of five years of study, combing through archives, interviewing past principals and senior alumni, and collecting rare photographs. With an academic background that spans sciences and mass communication, Galappaththi’s work offers fresh, untold insights into Nalanda College’s origins and its mission to promote Buddhist education, especially through the work of P. de S. Kularatne. As a key founder, Kularatne selected high-achieving students from Ananda College and situated the new school near Campbell Park, naming it “Vidyalaya” to reflect the legacy of India’s historic Nalanda University.
The 66-chapter book has been published by the Old Nalandian ’89 Group.
