Twelve teams including the team that won the most number of games in the schoolgirls’ category, Devapathiraja College Ratgama, will compete in two groups in the Under-19 Division One schools cricket tournament.
Wickramashila National School Giriulla, last year’s division two champions, Uhana National School last year’s runners-up, Newstead Girls College Negombo and Mahamaya College Kandy who qualified to the semi-finals, have been promoted to the Division One tournament this year.
Devapathiraja College, defending champions Ratnawali Balika Vidyalaya Gampaha, defending runners-up, Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda, Princess of Wales College Moratuwa, Wadduwa Central, Anura Vidyalaya Matara, St. Anthony’s Girls College Katugastota and Vijayaba Secondary School Okkampitiya are teams that played in the Division One last season. A dozen teams will compete in two groups in the first round on a league basis.
Each team will play five matches in the first round.
Champions and runners-up from both groups will advance to the semi-finals and the first round matches have to be completed on or before November 8 according to the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.
Group A:
Devapathiraja College, Anula Vidyalaya, Anura Vidyalaya Matara, Vijayaba Secondary School Okkampitiya, Uhana National School, Mahamaya College
Group B:
Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya Gampaha, Princess of Wales College, Wadduwa Central, St. Anthony’s Girls College, Newstead Girls College Negombo, Wickramashila National School Giriulla
Semi finals:
A1 vs B2 and A2 vs B1
