Savinka Weerasekara triumphed in the men’s Open category while Panchali Adhikari emerged victorious in the women’s segment at the Kandy All-Island Open Badminton Championship organized by the Central Province Badminton Association affiliated with Sri Lanka Badminton.
The national-ranking tournament, held at the Provincial Council Sports Complex in Rajawella, Digana saw Weerasekera defeat SanudaImal Ariyasinghe in straight sets (21-14, 21-15) in the men’s open final while Panchali beat Sanadi Dahamsa de Silva with scores of 20-22, 21-12 and 21-14 to win the women’s open singles title.
In the men’s Open doubles, Alan Dharmasaputra and Marcello Vittorio defeated Tenuka Sathsara de Silva and Tarusha Madhubanu with scores of 21-10, 19-21 and 21-17 in the final.
Hasini Nusaka and Hasara Wijayaratne claimed the women’s Open doubles title by defeating Nilasi Siyara Balasuriya and Jananuwani Amanda de Alwis with scores of 21-16 and 21-12.
The Mixed doubles title was won by Dharmasaputra and Panchali who triumphed over Marcello and Ranumi Suhasnie Manage with scores of 19-21, 24-22 and 21-12.
The Championship featured a vast array of competitions spanning over different categories: Open, Junior, Senior, and Veterans while a prize of Rs. 1.7 million along with certificates, trophies and medals were on offer for the podium winners according to the organisers.
