Lyceum International School Wattala is reported to be facing an inquiry for allegedly fielding a player from OKI International School at the All-Island under-13 doubles Badminton Team Championship that was held in Kandy last week.

Recognizing the player from OKI sporting a shirt in the colours of Lyceum International School Wattala, the coach of OKI protested to the coach of Lyceum.

Chameera Kumarapperuma who is the coach of OKI told the Sunday Observer that the player was still at Lyceum and had not obtained the leaving certificate.

This led to him making the protest to the Schools Badminton Association that is now inquiring into the matter.

A suspension of Lyceum could mean their Under-13 boys and girls team will not be able to take part in tournaments during the period of the suspension according to Kumarapperuma.

“The coach of Lyceum should have known the rules and what the consequences will be. A suspension could apply to both girls and boys of the school in that particular age group,” said Kumarapperuma.

At the time of going to Press, Lyceum authorities could not be reached for their reaction.
