Provincial Rugby Unions are reported to have raised objections to the appointment of what is said to be illegal Committees set up ahead of the start of the new inter-club League season.
The grouse is that some of the officials who were serving Sri Lanka Rugby at the time of its disbanding in May have been incorporated into the Committees in question by the Sports Ministry which is the current caretaker of the sport.
The administration of Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) is currently pending a court verdict that is scheduled to be handed down on November 6 ahead of the inter club season that starts end of November. The Committees in question that have been set-up deal with the Tournament, Sponsorship, Disciplinary, Technical and Tournament Operations.
The Provincial Unions have called on the Director General of Sports in the Ministry to withdraw the Committees before the November 6 court ruling which will have a say in SLR adopting a new Constitution and a subsequent election of office bearers.
Currently SLR stands threatened by World Rugby which has demanded a new Constitution and the election of a new set of office-bearers.
