Winter schedule gets off the ground

Edelweiss Airlines launched its winter flights to Colombo from Zurich, Switzerland. The flights will operate every Friday.

An Airbus A 330 type aircraft was used for the maiden flight to Colombo for the winter season. Katunayake airport authorities welcomed the flight with the traditional water salute. Seventeen Business Class, 221 Economy Class passengers and a crew of 13 were on the Flight.

It is a direct flight from Zurich, coming to Colombo every Friday and scheduled to depart from Katunayake at 10.05 a.m. on the same day, returning to Surin via Maldivaina Male city.

The Airline is expected to increase to two flights per week from January 2025, operating every Friday and Sunday. The Winter schedule is expected to operate till May 2025.

On Thursday, Russian Airlines also recommended flights to Sri Lanka showing that the travel advisories regarding the terrorist threat on Arugam Bay, not having an impact on the local tourism sector.
