A young Armenian tourist, Grigoryan Marin in a special video released has thanked the Airport Tourist Police and its staff for returning her luggage which was stolen by another passenger who had arrived on the same flight to Sri Lanka. In the video released before her departure, she thanked Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Vijitha Herath and his Private Secretary who took swift action and directed that legal action be taken against the suspect.
The authorities cited this as an example and added that foreign tourists arriving in Sri Lanka have all the facilities to complete their journey safely without any hindrance and this will be extremely helpful for the progress of the tourism industry in Sri Lanka, a media release issued by the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation stated.
The airport authorities had been informed that the luggage of the young Armenian woman, Grigoryan Marin who arrived in Sri Lanka on flight No: GP502 on October 20, 2024 had gone missing.
The authorities informed the Airport Tourist Police and on the directive of Police Inspector Wasantha Kumara, the security camera system revealed that the luggage had been taken by another person. A woman from Badulla who had arrived on the same flight had allegedly taken it and she was taken in for questioning.
The suspect who was produced in the Negombo Court was ordered to pay Rs.600,000 in compensation to the female passenger. The OIC of the Tourist Police of the Airport said that the fine was paid in two instalments.
