Sri Lankan athletes can look forward to a busy schedule next year as Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) has lined up a number of events with a few enticing foreign events on the card.
The most exciting event will be the South Asian Senior Athletic Championship that is to be held as early as in April followed by the Asian under-18 championship also to be held in April in Riyad, Saudi Arabia.
Selection trials for these two events will also attract the attention of the athletes who will be looking forward to excel and qualify. The trials will be held on February 8 and 9, 2024while the final trials will be held on March 8 and 9 at the Sugathadasa Stadium.
With the junior athletes doing well this year and achieving a certain degree of honours having won medals in foreign events they will be eager to enhance their performances this year too.
The 26th Asian Senior Athletic Championships is also coming up from May 27 to 31 in Gumi, Korea. Many Sri Lankan athletes will be looking forward to this event to improve their own records they currently hold.
Then most looked forward to event will be the World Athletic Championships to be held in Tokyo, Japan from September 13 to 21.
The high level local events to be held are the 64th Junior National Championships to be held from June 13 to 15 and the 103rd National Championships that is scheduled to be held from August 1 to 3.
This event will also be the final selection trial for the South Asian Games to be held in October in Lahore, Pakistan.
